7-Zip - мощный архиватор, самым главным оружием которого является собственный алгоритм LZMA. Сжатые в формат 7Z файлы, как правило, в 1.5-5, а то и более раз меньше своих ZIP-собратьев. Более того, даже у распространенного WinRAR 7-Zip обычно выигрывает 10-30% при почти равной скорости сжатия/декомпрессии. Но есть у архиватора и минусы - графический интерфейс довольно примитивен по сравнению с конкурентами, нет защиты файлов от повреждений и еще кое-чего, по мелочам. Впрочем, 7-Zip распространяется бесплатно, доступны его исходные коды и библиотеки, так что умельцы могут встраивать алгоритм LZMA в свои разработки. Постепенно 7-Zip завоевывает место под солнцем и становится одним из главных алгоритмов во многих других мультиархиваторах. Кроме своего стандартного 7Z-формата, программа поддерживает ZIP, CAB, RAR, ARJ, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, CPIO, RPM и DEB. К слову, именно 7-Zip используется на AG как один из основных элементов Xtreme Repack'ов.
